When Fear Runs the Show, Write a Love Letter
When fear runs the show, write a love letter.
Ten years ago, I was afraid I had lost direction in my career.
After reading about an organization whose mission inspired me (they fund women-led companies), I wrote a love letter to them.
"I believe in your mission. I want to help drive it forward because it means the world to me. What can I do to contribute?"
They gave me a mid-career internship that led to a mid-career makeover.
Writing one love letter helped me overcome the fear of failure and pivot my career.
Whom or what do you love?
Express your love in words today.
You don't have to say, "I love you" if that's too weird or personal.
Tell three people you appreciate and admire them.
It could be someone you met at a networking event last year, whose story lit a fire under you. Or a mentor whose timely advice helped you avoid a snafu at work. Or the former boss whose casual compliments really lifted your spirits that one time when you least expected it.
Here are some prompts to get you started:
"Here's what I love about the way you handled...
"I just wanted to say I appreciate you for...
"I admire you because...
Writing a love letter is the ultimate win win.
Love always feels good.
When people feel good, we're more creative, collaborative and open to new ideas. To new possibilities. To overcoming fear.
With love,
Jamie
