Leadership Lab for Women of the Global Majority
You're invited to join Leadership Lab for Women of the Global Majority. (NOTE: The event is over, but you can watch the replay HERE)
But before I get into the details, let me take you on a brief adventure...
On a recent Saturday, I got up 15 minutes ahead of the alarm, set for 6am.
By 6:30am, I was dressed for the adventure ahead: gray t-shirt and running shorts, purple and pink Ciele running cap, and fluorescent orange Allbirds running shoes.
Boyfriend (also dressed to run) and I headed out for the New York City Subway, to the uptown A train.
Our destination: West 181st Street, so we could cross the George Washington Bridge to New Jersey, by foot.
Our goal: to join Asian Trail Mix, a trail running club of about 100 folks at Fort Lee Historical Park for a 4 mile hike in the Palisades, a cliff-top park along the Hudson River.
On the way there, at around 7am, the subway stations were uncharacteristically quiet.
No traveling mariachi band busking raucously amidst a sea of foreign tourists and weary commuters. Even the PA announcements, which are usually screeching loud during rush hour traffic, were subdued.
Almost pleasant. Unusual.
Looking around on the platform, I noticed something else unusual.
All around me were bodies of color -- Brown and Black -- heading to work, while most New Yorkers slept in soft beds.
I had a jolt of recognition.
Some of those folks could have been my mom and dad, who used to commute 7 days a week to run a gift shop in Queens when I was a latchkey kid in New Jersey.
I was confronted with my own privilege: As a light skinned Asian...
As an executive coach who works with knowledge workers, finance managers, MDs and PhDs from the comfort of her home office...
As the daughter of immigrants who worked their fingers to the bone so that I wouldn't have to.
That's also when I realized that all around me were people of the Global Majority.
Global Majority is a collective term for ethnic groups -- including but not exclusive to African, Asian, Indnous, or dual-heritage backgrounds (also referred to as Black, Indigenous, People of Color, or BIPOC) -- which constitute about 85% of the global population.
Like my parents, some of the folks on that subway platform may have been dreaming of their children living a different life in the future, a more financially well-resourced one, a professional one.
A dream in which the Global Majority take up space and take the lead where they had once been the minority -- in all the rooms where decisions are made.
That dream is a worthy one, and I want to be part of the solution to help bring that dream one step closer to reality.
That's why on Wednesday, August 23rd, I'm hosting a powerful, stand-alone, and completely free group coaching session: Leadership Lab for Women of the Global Majority (watch the replay HERE).
This is an open group coaching session for professional women who want to grow their leadership skills and accelerate their career growth.
In this session:
We'll prioritize coaching those in the Global Majority, and will not exclude anyone based on their backgrounds or apparent identities
You'll get the opportunity to raise your hand for coaching with me, OR to witness and learn from others getting coached on self-advocacy, communication strategies, people leadership, and more
I'll share the same tools and processes I share with my private clients in 1:1 coaching sessions
The 1:1 coaching container is where I get to see my clients -- about half of whom are brilliant women of color -- transform right in front of my eyes. From overwhelmed and anxious to sitting tall, proud and regal.
This happens because through coaching they access the power they've always had inside, but forgotten how to access. The power to effect change. The power to lead.
Click HERE to register because you watch the replay, too, want to access the power to lead and make positive changes in your career and life.
And finally, please enjoy these pictures from the trail run last Saturday.
